Job Summary

Medstar is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and fill routine orders for prescribed medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Restock automated dispensing machines and repack medications as needed.
  • Compound both sterile and non-sterile medications using proper techniques and precautions.
  • Assist pharmacists in obtaining patient-specific information for safe medication management.
  • Participate in the exchange of information with healthcare professionals and staff under direct supervision.
  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives.
  • Ensure medications are properly and safely stored throughout the hospital.
  • Label and package medications according to hospital policy and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the hospital's medication management system for risk points and identify areas to improve safety.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
  • Less than 1 year 6 months related pharmacy technician experience and hospital environment experience preferred.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within 180 Days required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of drug nomenclature and medical terminology; proficiency in basic mathematics, including fractions and decimals.
