Position Overview

Soilutions, established with a vision for enhancing soil health, is on the lookout for an Operations Manager to lead our Compost and Soil Yard team. Our mission is to transform organic waste into valuable compost, soils, and mulches, thereby promoting sustainable agricultural practices. With a commitment to diverting organic materials from landfills, we aim to expand our impact with the expertise of a new Operations Manager.

In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with the CEO to set and achieve production targets on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Your responsibilities will include identifying the necessary personnel, tools, and equipment to meet these goals and overseeing their implementation. You will manage the Yard Manager and Office Manager, ensuring that production and order fulfillment objectives are consistently met while effectively communicating any challenges or opportunities to your supervisor.

Your leadership will extend to hiring and developing team members at the Compost & Soil Yard, ensuring they have the resources and support needed for success and safety. You will also oversee quality management, ensuring all necessary documentation, testing, and record-keeping are conducted to uphold our quality standards. Coordination with customers, vendors, and logistics providers will be essential to maintain a production schedule that aligns with consumer demand.

This position is in-person and involves working with a dedicated team of approximately 10 individuals. You will have the chance to engage in heavy machinery operation and receive extensive training in composting techniques, mulch and living soil production, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Compost & Soil Yard, supporting the Yard Manager and Office Manager.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout all production processes and in the management of the final product.
  • Work with the CEO to prioritize and lead strategic initiatives, including infrastructure improvements and new equipment implementation.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Collaborate with logistics providers and customer service teams to ensure timely product delivery and exceptional customer experiences.
  • Develop, implement, and refine processes and reporting to support the evolving organization.
  • Proactively address challenges with clear communication to both staff and supervisors.
  • Manage hiring, training, and disciplinary actions for team members as necessary.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience is required, preferably in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure situations while maintaining proactive communication with both remote supervisors and in-person teams.
  • Experience in fostering a positive work culture and people-oriented environment is crucial.
