Electrical Systems Designer

Job Summary
As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Buchart Horn, you will lead the design of electrical systems and industrial controls for water and wastewater treatment plans, pumping stations, distribution and collection systems, and architecture and transportation projects. You will apply established electrical engineering principles to plan, design, and develop systems, facilities, or processes. Your technical expertise will be essential in conducting project-related site surveys, power system analyses, and sizing of electrical equipment. You will also be responsible for coordinating with utility companies, developing motor and PLC control wiring diagrams, and performing independent engineering calculations. Additionally, you will provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff, and actively participate in corporate seller-doer efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design team on projects from the pre-schematic phase through the development of Construction Documents
- Apply established Electrical Engineering principles to plan, design, and develop systems, facilities, or processes
- Conduct project-related site surveys to confirm existing conditions and gather project data
- Conduct Power System Analyses (Coordination and Arc-flash studies) and sizing of electrical equipment
- Coordinate with utility companies to design new site electrical services and equipment and installation requirements
- Develop motor and PLC control wiring diagrams, SCADA system architecture, performance, and electrical technical specifications
- Perform independent engineering calculations and complete shop drawing reviews
- Develop Construction cost estimates and sequences of construction
- Complete project bid phase and construction: respond to RFI's, prepare addenda, construction site inspections, and review change orders
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Interns, EIT's, junior engineers and support staff
- Support PM's with proposals, work plan development, coordinate multi-discipline projects and requirements, monitor schedules and budgets, attend meetings
- Perform QA/QC procedures and enforce quality control procedures throughout project development
- Assure compliance with corporate procedures relevant to project design and implementation
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience required
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Previous leadership experience as either a technical leader or project manager of mid-scale projects preferred
- Experience using ETAP or SKM to perform short circuit, coordination and arc-flash studies
