Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated individual to provide transportation support for individuals with developmental disabilities. This full-time role involves facilitating safe and reliable transportation for clients, ensuring their well-being and engagement throughout the day.

*The position requires on-site presence during operational hours, with transportation duties scheduled for the afternoon.*

The ideal candidate will assist clients in enhancing their personal, social, and communication abilities through tailored instruction in both community settings and specialized facilities. Upholding the dignity and respect of each individual served is a fundamental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established Teaching Plans, Behavior Management Plans, and Service Agreements as outlined by the Life Planning Team, documenting progress as required.
  • Become well-versed in the service agreements and risk management strategies for each client.
  • Deliver quality instruction in skill development, recognizing and seizing opportunities to teach, providing clear rationales, and offering positive reinforcement.
  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including support during meals, classes, and transportation.
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training to effectively meet the needs of clients and attend meetings as directed by the supervisor.
  • Report any health, safety, or abuse concerns to the appropriate personnel in accordance with agency policy.
  • Represent the organization at Life Planning meetings as needed.
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies as necessary, following agency guidelines.
  • Encourage community involvement and participation in desired activities for clients.
  • Maintain professionalism and advocate for the rights and needs of individuals served at all times.
  • Ensure that all clients are treated with respect, providing them with choices that promote independence.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Transport clients using agency vehicles as needed.
  • Report any maintenance issues related to vehicles to the supervisor.
  • Develop and follow lesson plans and educational objectives as directed.
  • Conduct assessments as necessary to gauge client progress.
  • Familiarize yourself with the rights of individuals served and ensure these rights are upheld in all interactions.
  • Facilitate meaningful learning experiences in classes.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.

Physical Requirements

This role involves routine physical activity, including the potential for frequent physical intervention. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Genuine desire to work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • Completion of shadow training upon hiring.
