Diesel Mechanic Job Description

Student Transportation of America is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing complex operations on large commercial vehicles, including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform thorough, accurate preventative maintenance inspections to ensure vehicles are in good working condition.
  • Complete all required maintenance operations, including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation, following schedules and OEM standards.
  • Perform unscheduled maintenance as needed, under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues with engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, brakes, and exhaust systems.
  • Perform emergency roadside services as needed, including repairs and field tests.
  • Inspect equipment and diagnose mechanical defects, documenting repairs and parts on work orders.
  • Maintain tools and workplaces in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Perform other duties as required, including on-call service calls, extended hours, or weekend work flexibility.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or mechanic, with accreditation from a school or certification program preferred.
  • Complete all training requirements and pass a pre-employment background check.
