Position Overview

This role is pivotal in assisting with the safeguarding, securing, and promoting safety and security within a Memorial Hermann Hospital campus.Key Responsibilities

Essential Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must hold certification as a Certified Healthcare Advanced Security Officer from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (if not certified upon hire, must achieve Certified Healthcare Basic Security Officer status and obtain Advanced certification within six (6) months post-hire);
  • Must possess a license as a Commissioned Security Officer from the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (if not licensed upon hire, must secure license within 90 days of employment);
  • Valid driver's license required (if from out of state, must obtain a Texas Driver's license within 90 days of employment);
  • Certification in Heartsaver CPR or Heartcode BLS CPR from the American Heart Association is necessary (if not certified upon hire, must achieve certification within 90 days of employment);
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a security-related role is required.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in computer usage is essential.
Core Responsibilities
  • Observes designated areas to ensure maximum visibility of security presence; assigned to a specific area or conducts patrols on foot or by vehicle to guarantee the security of all designated locations and access points; manages vehicular access to buildings and parking facilities; identifies and reports all fire and safety hazards, suspicious activities, or security breaches.
  • Regulates access to areas and materials by implementing and enforcing visitor and materials pass protocols. Maintains a comprehensive understanding of hospital, building management, and departmental policies and procedures; adheres to posted orders and complies with job requirements consistently.
  • Responds to all security and emergency situations as dispatched or assigned; assists patients, visitors, and staff by providing information, directions, and escort services.
  • Completes and submits required Security Reports and activity logs during assigned shifts; operates and maintains Security equipment properly; stays informed about the locations and functions of emergency systems and equipment.
  • Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; complies with all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary constraints, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Encourages personal professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based objectives that contribute to the organization's success; serves as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff.
