Position Overview: The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor is accountable for overseeing the personnel and processes necessary for the secure and effective transfer of materials and finished goods from initial receipt to final dispatch, ensuring adherence to organizational, client, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resource Allocation: Strategically plan daily resource distribution (equipment, personnel, materials, and systems) to efficiently and safely meet performance objectives established with Production Management.
  • Warehouse Management: Direct activities and maintain relationships with cold storage and freight forwarding facilities, ensuring inventory accuracy, managing releases, inbounds/outbounds, and resolving claims.
  • Yard Operations: Oversee all operations related to the movement and storage of trailers within the yard, including spotting duties.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Record daily shipping and receiving activities, comparing results against set targets, and report discrepancies during on-the-floor and review meetings.
  • Supervisory Duties: Conduct all supervisory functions including scheduling, performance management, hiring, disciplinary actions, coaching, training, and making termination recommendations.
  • Forklift Fleet Management: Monitor and maintain the forklift fleet to ensure operational safety and functionality.
  • Load Scheduling: Organize and document all incoming and outgoing shipments, collaborating closely with distribution centers, Corporate Logistics, and transportation providers to guarantee timely and cost-effective goods movement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Employ focused improvement tools in problem-solving scenarios to identify root causes of issues and support ongoing enhancement initiatives.
  • Shift Transitions: Facilitate smooth transitions between shifts, ensuring effective communication of key information to peers, team members, and Production Management.
  • Safety Compliance: Uphold a safe working environment by implementing safe work instructions, practices, and procedures for all roles, ensuring employee training and compliance. Apply corrective actions consistently when necessary.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to all quality and food safety programs through regular compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety checks (HACCP), and product quality assessments in line with organizational policies. Actively engage in the prevention and rectification of quality-related issues.
  • Participation in Initiatives: Engage in continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities for enhancement and recommending changes within the scope of responsibility.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, production operations management, agricultural science, food science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient understanding of good manufacturing practices, hazard analysis and critical control points, lean manufacturing, and other food safety, quality, and manufacturing principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor team members, identifying development needs and providing appropriate support.
  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities simultaneously with effective organizational abilities and sound judgment in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word for document creation, Excel for data management, and Outlook for communication.
  • Familiarity with SAP business software is preferred.
  • Work is primarily conducted in a manufacturing environment, subject to varying temperatures, with appropriate personal protective equipment required.
  • Physical requirements include regular sitting, standing, bending, walking, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Close vision for computer screen use is necessary.
