Job Title: Embedded Firmware Engineer

Job Summary:

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our team in San Diego. As a key member of our Engineering and Applied Physics team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing firmware and software solutions for our cutting-edge instrumentation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop firmware and software for embedded systems, including control systems, data acquisition, and signal processing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate firmware and software solutions with our science and technology.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Work closely with scientists and engineers to gather requirements and develop solutions that meet their needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve our instrumentation systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in developing firmware and software for instrumentation, automation, medical, industrial, military, and/or robotics.
  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Python, with experience in embedded system development.
  • Knowledge of control software development, including system design, UI/UX, configuration, setup, complex troubleshooting, and service.
  • Experience with debugging tools and methodologies, including I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN bus communication protocols.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools, including LabVIEW and OpenCL.

Flexibility:

This role is eligible for an on-site designation, with a requirement to work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
