Position Overview

As a Surgical Medical Nurse at Catholic Health Initiatives, you will play a vital role in supporting patients through their recovery from neuro and orthopedic surgeries. Your ability to build rapport with patients and their families will be essential as you anticipate their needs, monitor their progress, and listen attentively to their concerns. Each patient’s experience is unique, and your compassionate care will help them navigate this critical time.

Your effectiveness in this position hinges on your collaboration with the surgical and nursing teams, ensuring clear communication while being attuned to the emotional and informational requirements of each patient. While prior experience in an orthopedic unit is not necessary, a genuine enthusiasm for patient care is crucial. We are committed to providing you with the training and resources needed to excel in this role, making it an excellent opportunity to launch your nursing career.

About Our Organization:

As a recognized level II trauma center, we serve as a regional hub for various specialties, including cardiology, trauma, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, and critical care. Our commitment to excellence has earned us accolades, including recognition as one of the best places to work and top patient safety ratings.

If you are passionate about social justice and health equity, and are eager to provide innovative care, we invite you to consider joining our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comfort and reassurance to patients recovering from surgery, helping them feel secure and at ease during their healing process.
  • Manage a fast-paced environment while maintaining a keen focus on patient details across multiple beds in the unit.
  • Assist new patients in understanding their post-operative care and ensure they receive the necessary medications for pain management.
  • Effectively communicate with families and patients regarding home care instructions and their hospital stay.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of nurses who share your commitment to patient well-being.

Qualifications

  • Valid nursing license to practice in the relevant state.
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience in acute care is required (new graduates or nurses without acute care experience may be considered through our residency training program).
  • Previous experience in orthopedic or neurological nursing is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Additional certifications (such as ACLS or PALS) may be necessary depending on the specific unit.

While you contribute to transforming the healthcare landscape, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans with matching contributions, paid time off, adoption assistance, and more.

Compensation

$42.83 per hour

We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
