The Radiology Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing a range of technical procedures, capturing images, and utilizing radionuclides for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Radiology Imaging Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health involves:

1. Conducting radionuclide procedures on patients, including organ imaging and function studies, while assisting physicians in the therapeutic application of radioisotopes under established safety protocols.
2. Selecting and operating Nuclear Medicine equipment as required.
3. Ensuring radiation safety for both self and patients in compliance with prescribed regulations.
4. Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
5. Compounding radioactive tracer substances for patient use.
6. Calibrating equipment and assessing radionuclides.
7. Receiving and inspecting radiopharmaceutical shipments in accordance with state and NRC guidelines.
8. Maintaining accurate records of radioisotope receipt, usage, storage, and disposal in line with state and federal regulations; keeping other records as necessary.
9. Upholding cleanliness and orderliness, ensuring contamination-free conditions for rooms, equipment, and personnel.
10. Adhering to all NRC, State DEP, and JCAHO guidelines and practices.
11. Evaluating images using PACS workstation to confirm proper identification and diagnostic quality.
12. Rotating work assignments as necessary in Nuclear Cardiology and PET/CT.
13. Performing essential clerical duties, including the use of EPIC, PACS, Teletracking System, Nuclear Medicine Information System, patient scheduling, and computer processing related to patient studies.
14. Being responsible for scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
15. Working overtime as needed to ensure consistent quality patient care.
16. Participating in on-call assignments as per Department of Radiology policy.
17. Welcoming all patients upon arrival for their examinations, utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
18. Complying with policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
19. Recognizing the needs of the patient population served and tailoring care accordingly (i.e., age, culture, language, sensory impairments, etc.). This includes effective communication with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their appropriate level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
20. Following the standards outlined in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
21. Performing additional duties and/or projects as assigned.
22. Adhering to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
3. Proficient in computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:
1. At least one year of experience in Nuclear Medicine.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
2. Nuclear Medical Technologist License.
3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Working Conditions:
