Position Overview: The Financial Aid Consultant I plays a crucial role in assisting students and evaluating their qualifications for various financial assistance programs.
Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise and educate students regarding federal, state, and local financial assistance programs.
- Examine and authenticate documentation from financial aid applicants in accordance with federal and state regulations. Determine funding amounts and distribute aid accordingly.
- Guide students through the FAFSA application process for federal and state aid eligibility. Conduct informational workshops and represent the Financial Aid Office at various events. Provide financial aid updates to students.
- Maintain current knowledge of financial aid regulations through participation in workshops, seminars, and relevant literature.
- Utilize the Colleague software system to enter data, including information from the Student Aid Report (SAR) and to create student profiles.
- Effectively manage time to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Assist departmental staff as required.
- Resolve discrepancies in student file processing.
- Perform routine support tasks in line with departmental procedures.
- Carry out additional assigned responsibilities within the department's scope.
Working Environment: The role is primarily indoors, involving sedentary tasks. Occasionally, the position may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in business, social sciences, or a related field; or two years of relevant financial aid experience may substitute for the degree.
- A minimum of two years of experience in student financial aid.
- Ability to interpret financial aid regulations and process assistance requests effectively.
- Proficiency in computer operations and data analysis.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet deadlines, and utilize financial aid systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Previous experience with the Ellucian Colleague system.
- Ability to act independently based on established policies and procedures.
Anticipated Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Compensation: Starting salary at $39,953, commensurate with experience.
