Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Center Assistant Medical Director and other senior leadership, this role involves delivering high-quality psychiatric clinical services in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. The psychiatrist will be responsible for assessing, planning, and providing comprehensive patient care, either independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver psychiatric services at Denton County MHMR Center outpatient clinics, crisis services, and various center-sponsored programs.
  • Conduct evaluations, manage medications, and develop care plans for clients experiencing acute and chronic mental health issues.
  • Provide both crisis intervention and routine services, utilizing face-to-face, telephonic, or telemedicine modalities.
  • Collaborate with nursing, case management, and crisis staff as a member of the treatment team.
  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative in providing care.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • A medical degree from an accredited institution with a specialization in psychiatry.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry.
  • Experience with the MHMR priority population and dual diagnosis (developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and mental illness) is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents is also preferred.

Licensure and Certification Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted medical licensure.
  • Prescriptive authority and maintenance of current licensure, including DEA registration.
  • Completion of all job-specific training within the first month of employment.
  • A valid Texas driver's license and auto liability insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Willingness to provide clinical supervision to Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of psychiatric principles and methods, as well as general medical procedures.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and document individualized care and treatment plans.
  • Proficiency in using medical and psychiatric diagnostic tools and electronic health record systems.
  • Skills to provide services via telepsychology and instant messaging systems.

Service Delivery

The psychiatrist will provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic services, and medication management for adult clients, and if applicable, clients under the age of 18, following the Texas Administrative Code and DCMHMR policies.

Documentation and Compliance

All services must be documented according to the guidelines set forth by the Medical Board, DCMHMR, and other relevant authorities, ensuring compliance with Medicaid and third-party billing requirements.

Professional Development

Participation in regular meetings, training sessions, and peer reviews is expected to ensure continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.

Emergency Preparedness

Provide emergency interventions as necessary, adhering to established protocols and maintaining all required training.

Customer Service

Deliver professional and courteous services at all times, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and awareness.
