Job Summary

The Physician III at the State Supported Living Center (SSLC) is a highly advanced medical professional responsible for delivering high-quality, integrated medical services to individuals with intellectual disabilities served by the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat individuals with complex medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health needs
  • Provide and monitor medical services for assigned caseload
  • Develop health care plans with measurable goals, objectives, and interventions
  • Participate in treatment team process and advocate for medical needs of individuals served
  • Collaborate with families, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Physician Assistants, and consultants
  • Provide direction and guidance to treatment team to solve complex medical issues
  • Complete required reports and medical documentation
  • Identify and communicate trends or issues and recommend solutions
  • Provide treatment to HHSC employees injured in the course and scope of employment
  • Participate in initiatives to obtain full compliance with the Department of Justice (DOJ) Settlement Agreement
  • Share on-call duty with other qualified medical staff
  • Work under the supervision of the Medical Director of the SSLC with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment
