GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities. The part-time role entails approximately 25-28 hours weekly, while the full-time role requires 40 hours. Responsibilities include assisting a sanitation refuse vehicle along designated routes to collect refuse, brush, limbs, and recyclables.

Employees will work outdoors in varying weather conditions, manually loading refuse into the truck, operating at waste processing sites, and performing additional assigned tasks.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts pre-route inspections of the vehicle to ensure cleanliness, servicing, fueling, and proper equipment.
  • Assists in unloading refuse at designated facilities.
  • Participates in routine maintenance of the sanitation vehicle.
  • Engages in customer service interactions with residents and city personnel, adhering to established protocols.
  • Collects litter along roadways.
  • Accompanies the refuse truck to gather waste, maneuvering carts to and from the vehicle.
  • Collects limbs and brush as part of the waste management process.
  • Assists in the collection of recyclable materials and participates in unloading procedures.
  • Records vehicle mileage and fuel usage.
  • Provides directional assistance to the driver during reversing maneuvers.
  • Participates in safety training sessions.
  • Collaborates with fellow city employees to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are necessary:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum educational requirement includes a general background without high school completion, along with 0 to 6 months of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and interpret documents such as policy manuals, safety regulations, and operational instructions; capable of writing routine reports and correspondence.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and apply these skills in practical situations.


CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense to execute simple multi-step instructions and manage standardized situations.
