Job Summary

This is a part-time instructor position in the Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. The instructor will teach a variety of courses within the Dental Assistant Program department. The position prepares and provides lecture, laboratory, and clinical instruction according to the required dental assistant curriculum established by Alvin Community College and approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Responsibilities

The instructor will instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations. The instructor must possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence. The instructor must demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral. The instructor will prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution. The instructor must maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.

Requirements

The instructor must have a high school diploma and an active License from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners in good standing. The instructor must have at least one (1) year non-teaching related work experience required in the dental field. The instructor must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet. The instructor will frequently perform autonomously and must be self-motivated. The instructor must be flexible with the ability to work days, nights, and/or weekends with the understanding that available hours will be based on the needs of the program not to exceed 19 hours per week. The instructor must be flexible and understands a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed and that classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled with minimal notice due to student need, student enrollment and/or program needs.

Working Environment

The incumbent typically works in a classroom environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of a classroom. The incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
