The Dental Hygiene Assistant provides support and complete assistance to the Hygienist in the clinical areas of the office. The hygiene assistant reviews Hygienist schedule to help maintain patient flow throughout the day and help minimize unnecessary wait time in the hygiene bay while aiding in providing quality care to the patients of the center. The Registered Dental Assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation and inventory control of dental instruments and hygiene supplies. The Registered Dental assistant is committed to ensuring a positive patient experience and following PCMH guidelines and principles Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as dental hygienist’s chair-side assistant, reviews Hygienist schedule and prepares operatory for patient treatment as per Dental Department protocols and the dentists or dental hygienists’ direction Review patient chart prior to Hygienist’s arrival and anticipate the hygienist’s needs for each patient Make a positive first impression by using the patient’s and parent’s name with a welcoming attitude, demeanor, and a smile The general nature of the appointment should be explained to help set proper expectations for the appointment Monitor hygiene schedules and help to fill cancellations internally and through recall. Assist the Hygienist in charting dentition and entering clinical notes of the patient. Obtaining quality image X-Rays by comforting and encouraging hesitant patients Follows guidelines for patient preparation and dismissal according to Dental Department policy and protocol Expanded Duties assistants may perform duties as appropriate, needed, and directed the Hygienist and/or Doctor Assist in the flow of patients: bring the patient back for treatment, assist throughout the appointment, guide patients and parents to the front desk upon completion of their appointment, and assist in any other area needed to help others in guiding patients through the visit Maintains Dental Department equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions and Dental Department policy and protocol Maintains all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directives and protocols as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and patient care of the Dental Department Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive, center policy as well as state and federal regulation(s) Performs all functions in full compliance with the Center’s and the Dental Department Exposure Control Plan including but not limited to the use of Personal Protective Equipment and Universal Precautions Participates in appropriate health promotion / disease prevention activities, both on-site and off-site as required As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives Responsible for personal compliance in full, with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures including but not limited to the participation of a Dental Assistant in the provision of clinical dental care, as well as those relating to, but not limited to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality Required Skills/Abilities: High ethical standards Well-organized and self-directed Team player Ability to relate to people at all levels in the organization Good communication skills Consumer advocate for quality health and dental care and services High ethical standards Well-organized and self-directed Team player Ability to relate to people at all levels in the organization Good communication skills Consumer advocate for quality health and dental care and services Preferred Skills/Abilities: Bilingual (Spanish) Physical Requirements Occasionally required to sit Frequently required to talk and stand Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Specific frequently vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision Color vision Peripheral vision Depth perception Ability to adjust focus Work Environment: BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS EXPOSURE LEVEL: 1 (HIGH) Noise Level: Moderate Experience Required 2 year(s): Dental assisting for expanded duties Education Required High School or better Licenses & Certifications Required Nitrous Oxide Dental X-Ray Reg.
