Job Overview

Reports To: Assistant Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer

Supervises: N/A

Objective: Manage a thorough preventative maintenance strategy that encompasses the repair of malfunctioning machinery, meticulous recordkeeping of parts and labor required for the upkeep of each piece of machinery, procurement of necessary components for repairs or services, and effective communication of maintenance or repair issues to the immediate supervisor, along with planning and executing repair tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Examine, identify, and rectify mechanical issues in various maintenance machinery, including but not limited to diesel, gasoline, and electric-powered equipment.
  2. Guide and assist in the training of personnel on preventative maintenance practices and the safe operation and cleaning of machinery.
  3. Prioritize repair and maintenance tasks for equipment.
  4. Administer a preventative maintenance program with a budget for all machinery and procure replacement parts and supplies as needed.
  5. Maintain comprehensive records of equipment servicing, condition, and repair costs.
  6. Conduct performance checks on equipment; frequently perform emergency repairs and service machinery before usage.
  7. Oversee the maintenance shop and associated storage areas.
  8. Manage employee equipment usage in the absence of the Chief Engineer, as required, and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
  9. Other responsibilities as directed.

Required Skills:

  1. Proficient understanding of light and heavy maintenance machinery and automotive systems, including the principles, care, and operation of combustion engines and mowing equipment.
  2. Expertise in utilizing various equipment repair tools, particularly grinding tools for sharpening cutting units.
  3. Capability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine suitable solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least 6 months of experience in mechanics or small engine repair.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Technical certifications such as HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, etc., are advantageous.
