Medical Technologist Transfusion Services Specialist

As a Medical Technologist Transfusion Services Specialist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, you will work under general supervision to provide technical skills for the performance of basic to complex laboratory procedures. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of transfusion services testing and products.
Responsibilities- Accurately perform testing, including accessioning and registering patient specimens for transfusion services testing and products.
- Prepare and label components based on standard operating procedures and issue blood products by performing all required cross-reference checks.
- Recognize deviations from expected results, evaluate results for discrepancies and feasibility, and utilize instrument and LIS flags to analyze and correct problems according to procedure.
- Document notification of critical results to appropriate personnel and ensure patient specimen stability and proper sample processing.
- Perform instrument startup and shutdown, document maintenance procedures and calibrations, and evaluate function checks and calibration results.
- Exhibit efficient use of time and resources, meet expectations for turnaround time and pending list review, and coordinate daily tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift.
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a related field.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), BB (ASCP), or SBB (ASCP)).
- Previous Transfusion Services experience is preferred.
