Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a skilled Medical Technologist to join our Transfusion Services team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in the performance of laboratory procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory procedures, including accessioning and registering patient specimens, and preparing and labeling components according to standard operating procedures.
  • Issue blood products, performing all required cross-reference checks, and recognizing critical results, documenting notification of critical results to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure patient specimen stability and proper sample processing, performing quality control procedures to ensure validity of test results, and evaluating, documenting, and troubleshooting quality control according to lab protocols.
  • Perform instrument startup and shutdown, maintenance procedures, and calibrations, as needed, and evaluate function checks and calibration results, performing corrective action when necessary.
  • Exhibit efficient use of time and resources, meeting expectations for turnaround time and pending list review, and coordinate daily tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field.
  • Previous Transfusion Services experience is preferred.
  • Certification as Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), BB (ASCP) or SBB (ASCP)) is required.
