The Regional Nutrition Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of nutritional care while effectively collaborating with contracted food service providers, dietary supervisors, medical professionals, and nursing personnel across designated facilities.

Nutritional care encompasses the assessment of all patients at nutritional risk, the development of care plans, ongoing monitoring, and diet education as necessary. The Specialist offers support to dietary supervisors and ensures that nutrition departments adhere to food safety and sanitation standards.

All responsibilities must align with regulatory standards, organizational policies, and the mission of Oceans Healthcare.


Key Responsibilities:
Regularly visits assigned facilities to evaluate nutrition service processes.
Interprets nutrition screenings to identify patients at risk and directs nutrition care accordingly.

Utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), conducts thorough nutrition assessments in accordance with policy to establish and support nutrition diagnoses, prescriptions, and care plans based on medical and nutrition history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests, and clinical evaluations.

Implements and supports nutrition care planning, including interventions aimed at achieving patient goals. These may involve therapeutic diets, oral nutrition supplements, and relevant diet education.
Monitors nutrition care plans and modifies interventions based on patient progress to facilitate the attainment of nutrition objectives, as necessary.
Documents and maintains records in compliance with the Standards of Practice for Registered Dietitians, legislation, regulations, and organizational policies.
Collaborates with patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals regarding recommendations for patient care.
Communicates quality improvement and regulatory compliance recommendations to leadership.

Engages with contracted food service providers, dietary supervisors, medical professionals, and nursing staff concerning all facets of nutritional care as required.

Evaluates and approves patient menus and nutritional supplements based on regulatory guidelines, dietary standards, patient preferences, and operational capabilities.
Observes meal service for compliance with policies and procedures, as well as regulatory standards.
Provides guidance to dietary supervisors regarding nutritional care and food safety/sanitation regulations.
Monitors nutrition departments for adherence to food safety and sanitation standards and conducts nutrition service audits.
Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education / Experience:
Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or Nutritional Sciences.
Successful completion of an ACEND-approved dietetic internship, didactic program, coordinated program, or graduate program.
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is mandatory.
State licensure is required in accordance with state law.
A minimum of five years of experience in food service management or clinical nutrition is preferred.

Skills:


Must comply with applicable laws and regulations related to their area(s) of practice, including registration and state licensure as required.

Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions is essential.
Must work effectively with diverse populations.
Utilization of age, disability, and cultural-specific knowledge is necessary when working with specialized populations to communicate effectively with clients.
Completion of an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program is required.

Work Environment:
Subject to frequent interruptions. May experience pressure due to multiple inquiries and calls. The environment can be fast-paced and stressful; candidates must be able to manage mental and physical demands.

Requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time indoors, providing protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature fluctuations.
