Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Licensed Optical Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient service by guiding individuals in eyewear choices, conducting prescription evaluations, and ensuring the optimal fit and comfort of spectacles. This position requires the ability to inform patients about lens options, execute precise measurements, and maintain the optical workspace.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Patient Guidance: Provide comprehensive information to patients regarding lens types, products, and styles to facilitate informed decision-making.

2. Prescription Evaluation: Analyze and convert prescriptions to guarantee the correct fabrication of lenses.

3. Frame Recommendations: Suggest appropriate eyeglass frames tailored to patients' prescriptions and lifestyle needs.

4. Eyewear Customization: Create complete eyewear solutions by combining frame aesthetics, lens types, and optical requirements.

5. Adjustments and Maintenance: Modify and repair eyeglass frames to ensure proper fit, comfort, and visual clarity. Provide guidance on the maintenance and care of eyewear.

6. Measurement Accuracy: Conduct precise assessments of lens specifications, including pupillary distance, multifocal segment height, and prism power.

7. Prescription Confirmation: Validate the correctness of lens prescriptions for ordered eyewear.

8. Display Management: Organize and upkeep the eyewear display area throughout operational hours.

9. Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other tasks as assigned, including verifying insurance benefits and eligibility for incoming patients.

10. Eyewear Dispensing: Distribute eyewear and address any related concerns.

11. Pre-Examination Procedures: Conduct preliminary testing for patients, including auto-refraction and non-contact tonometry (NCT), and perform frame repairs.

12. Order Management: Process orders for patients' eyewear.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency required.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience: Prior experience as an optical specialist or in a related field is advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate with diverse groups.
  • Professionalism: A high standard of professionalism, ethics, and conduct is expected in demeanor, speech, and appearance at all times.
  • Adaptability: Capability to navigate changing circumstances and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform tasks that involve physical activity necessary for the role.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Completion of an accredited optical training program is mandatory.

· Certification from the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) is required.
