Salary Range: $52,000 - $56,000 Annually

Shelter House has been a vital resource since 1981, addressing the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. Our organization has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, collaborating with government, private partners, and local residents. Currently, we are a dedicated team of over 100 professionals committed to combating homelessness and domestic violence, having positively impacted nearly 2,000 individuals in the past year, including many children.

Role Responsibilities:

The Case Manager will deliver Rapid Re-Housing services to households classified as literally homeless by the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), particularly those escaping domestic violence. This role requires a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centered approach.

Key Contributions:

  • Design individualized service plans focused on Housing First principles tailored to each client's housing needs.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients' physical and mental health, social needs, life skills, employment history, and safety concerns to collaboratively identify necessary support.
  • Provide crisis intervention and develop personalized safety plans; assist domestic violence victims with protective orders and attend court proceedings as needed.
  • Facilitate coordination among mental health professionals, service providers, advocates, and legal entities.
  • Assist clients in their housing search and budget management.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with landlords to negotiate lease terms and advocate for clients.
  • Educate clients on tenant rights, housing discrimination, and maintenance responsibilities.
  • Oversee rental assistance provision and track all financial transactions.
  • Stay informed about issues related to homelessness and domestic violence.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Case Manager to ensure compliance with agency philosophy and HUD grant requirements.
  • Document all client interactions accurately in accordance with agency standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as directed.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office products effectively in daily tasks.
  • Embody the core values of Shelter House in all interactions.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support the program and agency.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in case management or direct services, particularly with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours when necessary.

Preferred:

  • Experience serving clients facing homelessness or domestic violence, as well as those with mental health or substance abuse challenges.
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Annual TB testing is mandatory.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift items weighing between 10-20 pounds.
