POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is part of the Facilities Management and Planning team, which oversees custodial services, building upkeep, utility operations, and landscape maintenance. The department is responsible for maintaining a significant portion of the campus, including numerous buildings and grounds.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The custodian is tasked with executing custodial duties within various facilities, either independently or alongside other custodial staff. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, managing waste disposal, dusting, window washing, and floor maintenance. The custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of academic environments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior custodial experience, especially in educational or public settings.
  • Familiarity with carpet and hard floor cleaning equipment and maintenance procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily tasks may include:
  • Cleaning classrooms and offices, including arranging furniture and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Maintaining hallways through dust mopping and wet mopping.
  • Sanitizing and restocking restroom facilities.
  • Vacuuming and dusting floors.
Additional responsibilities may involve:
  • Carpet maintenance through extraction and shampooing.
  • Hard floor maintenance including scrubbing and waxing.
  • Changing light bulbs and cleaning windows.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard cleaning practices.
  • Experience in safely handling and using cleaning chemicals.
  • Strong physical ability to perform manual tasks and operate cleaning equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and task execution.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and climbing.
  • Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed for special assignments.
