Job Summary

As a Recreation Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting various recreation programs at a recreation facility, developing and coordinating education, sports, health & fitness, and youth development related programs and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate recreation programs and services for youth and adults
  • Instruct and lead recreation activities, sports, and fitness programs
  • Meet with youth councils and community members to develop programs and activities
  • Direct participants in the correct and safe use of facilities and equipment
  • Ensure participant code of conduct is understood and adhered to
  • Administer emergency first aid and CPR as required
  • Prepare facilities for program use
  • Advise participants about community resources and programs
  • Coach and officiate sports and games
  • Distribute and maintain supplies and equipment
  • Meet with parents or guardians to resolve issues related to participant behavior
  • Respond to inquiries related to facility programs
  • Perform basic administrative tasks
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation/Leisure Services, Physical Education, Human Services, Art, Drama, Dance, or Music
  • One year of full-time experience conducting or instructing recreation, educational, or leisure programs
  • American Red Cross standard first aid and CPR certification
  • New York State Class D Driver's License
  • Van Certification issued by the Department of Recreation & Youth Services
