Role Overview:
This position is integral to the Lunar Permanence division, where we are dedicated to establishing sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface. We seek a professional who can leverage their technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and dedication to quality to enhance the safety of human spaceflight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive materials and processes support for metallic substances, including additive manufacturing (AM), forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation.
- Assist in design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification for space vehicles.
- Conduct systematic reviews of production drawings for large, complex assemblies, ensuring compliance with established requirements.
- Oversee M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for components and assemblies.
- Lead and coordinate both internal and external M&P initiatives for additive manufacturing, focusing on material specifications, process specifications, supplier qualifications, part qualifications, mechanical testing, and client updates.
- Support the creation of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and expedite material evaluation, implementation, and qualification.
- Collaborate with design engineers to ensure compatibility of part designs with AM processes.
- Engage with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in AM M&P Engineering within a production flight or space program.
- Experience with AM aluminum and/or titanium applications in aerospace.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement part qualification test plans for AM components.
- Familiarity with standard testing methods for mechanical properties of aerospace-grade materials, particularly AM materials.
- Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g., MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
- Experience in organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company-accessible database.
- Willingness to travel to support development and testing opportunities at various sites.
- Proven ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience conducting ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing.
- Experience in planning and executing material allowable or qualification programs.
- Proven track record in developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones.
- In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, metallography, ultrasound, micrography, and mechanical testing).
