Job Summary

The Kings Community Action Organization is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Teacher Assistant II to join our team. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality educational experiences for children and parents in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and Departmental of Social Services, Licensing Division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Support: Assist in planning and setting up a classroom environment that aligns with the program curriculum, ensuring a safe and engaging learning space for children.
  • Collaboration with Teachers: Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts, promoting a cohesive and effective learning environment.
  • Documentation and Assessment: Document observations and assessments, including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) progress notes, and portfolio samples to individualize learning for each child.
  • Lesson Planning: Assist in developing daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children, promoting a nurturing and supportive classroom environment.
  • Classroom Management: Organize and supervise activities to promote physical, mental, and social development, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all children.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Work in conjunction with the teacher director/site supervisor, and the management team to complete program goals and meet required deadlines, promoting effective communication and collaboration.
  • Child Supervision: Assist the teacher with the supervision of children in their care, ensuring active supervision and maintaining a visual count of children at all times.
  • Family Support: Assist the teacher in conducting and documenting scheduled home visits and parent conferences with enrolled families, providing support to families through needs assessments and scheduled home visits.
  • Professional Development: Participate in case conferencing to develop a team approach in providing services to children 0-5 and their families, and attend all in-service trainings, workshops, parent meetings, and required Head Start Program meetings.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Associate's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution of higher education, and at least one year of work/volunteer experience in a preschool setting.
  • Permits and Certifications: Obtain Child Development Permit within 6 months of employment and keep current by completing 25 hours of professional growth annually.
  • Other Requirements: Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer, and ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
