Position Summary:

The Biostatistics Center at the Milken Institute School of Public Health, part of George Washington University, is a prominent off-campus medical research facility located in Rockville, Maryland. This center plays a crucial role in coordinating extensive multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological studies funded by federal entities, including the National Institutes of Health.

The Biostatistics Center is currently seeking a Director of Information Technology to oversee all facets of information systems and technological requirements for a research center comprising over 100 faculty and research personnel. This role supports a substantial portfolio of NIH-sponsored research involving numerous external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of information systems, networking, security, and data center operations.
  • Develop a strategic long-term plan for the organization’s information systems.
  • Act as the chief architect for the organization’s IT infrastructure.
  • Direct the design, development, implementation, and coordination of all information systems functions.
  • Evaluate new computing technologies for potential integration within the organization.
  • Establish and review policies and procedures for information systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Oversee procurement processes related to information systems, including the acquisition of new equipment and maintenance of existing systems.
  • Manage the design, installation, and operation of the organization’s data center facilities.
  • Supervise information systems staff, ensuring effective performance management and development.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to staff and researchers, ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place to meet operational needs.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 10 years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a related area with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.


Preferred Skills:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of various information systems, including IBM System z, Intel servers, and PC platforms.
  • Thorough understanding of operating systems such as IBM z/VM, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.

Compensation and Benefits:

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule from Monday to Friday.
