Position Overview:

The Youth Empowerment Coordinator will provide specialized educational and employment assistance to current and former foster youth. This role involves essential administrative support, including data entry and program operations, to ensure the smooth functioning of our Independent Living Skills Program. The Coordinator will assist youth in identifying and pursuing educational and employment objectives that contribute to their long-term stability.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Operations:

  • Evaluate the educational needs and interests of youth participants.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with educational institutions and vocational training programs.
  • Guide youth in navigating financial aid options and the application process.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to support youth during IEP meetings.
  • Facilitate workshops on educational topics for youth participants.
  • Work with external providers to ensure youth have a solid educational plan.

Case Coordination:

  • Coordinate educational services with external providers.
  • Advocate for necessary services to help youth achieve their goals.
  • Provide crisis resources and referrals for youth in need.
  • Build strong relationships with community partners, including social workers and group homes.
  • Ensure youth are meeting their educational goals as outlined in their Action Plans.
  • Accurately enter data to support program evaluation and outcomes.

Intake and Enrollment Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments for new youth referrals to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Participate in the youth intake process and support initial treatment/service plans.
  • Confirm eligibility for program services.
  • Maintain communication with social workers to ensure accurate documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in social work or education preferred.
  • Three years of experience working with at-risk youth, particularly those in foster care.
  • Strong knowledge of educational resources available in the community.
  • Familiarity with the challenges faced by transitioning foster youth.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Ability to work in community settings and maintain a dependable vehicle.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to cultural competency and social justice.
