About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team at the Scottish Government. As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in providing financial expertise and support to our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare and review financial reports, including the annual report and accounts, to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
    • Develop and maintain financial processes and controls to ensure robust and secure financial management.
  • Financial Analysis
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and provide recommendations to senior management.
    • Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting and forecasting.
  • Team Management
    • Lead and manage a small team of financial professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high levels of accuracy and compliance.
    • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members.
  • Compliance
    • Ensure that all financial transactions are compliant with relevant accounting and financial regulations, including the Scottish Public Finance Manual (SPFM), Finance Reporting Manual (FReM), IFRS, HMRC legislation, and other relevant regulations.

Requirements

  • Qualifications
    • CCAB (or equivalent) qualified with up-to-date CPD.
  • Experience
    • Experience of working within a financial environment, with the ability to generate, identify, and interrogate financial data to support decision-making and ensure high levels of accuracy and compliance.
  • Skills
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and maintain strong working relationships.
    • Enhanced analytical skills using a variety of tools, including Excel, to develop informed options, make evidence-based recommendations, and support informed decisions.
