Job Overview

The Strategic Planner will play a crucial role in supporting the Joint Modernization Command, executing tasks as assigned by the Chief of STRATPLANS and/or the Command Group.

This position involves serving as a Strategic Planner within the Strategic Planning Section (STRATPLANS) of the Joint Modernization Command, directly assisting the Command Group in their communications with both internal and external stakeholders. The role also includes developing products that effectively convey the Command Group's messaging to various audiences, including leaders from the Department of the Army, Joint Services, Future Concepts Center, Army Futures Command, Congressional representatives, and local community leaders.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership, Personnel, Facilities, and Policy frameworks, along with experience in combined arms operations, to support the Army Modernization Enterprise (AME).
  • Managing special projects as directed by the MSS Project Leader, Chief of STRATPLANS, and/or the Command Team.
  • Conducting liaison activities with external agencies, including representatives from 1AD and Fort Bliss, Army Futures Command, and other necessary organizations.
  • Collaborating with STRATPLANS colleagues, including the Joint Visitor Bureau, Public Affairs Office, Futures Writers, and operations personnel to achieve mission objectives.
  • Participating in the planning, design, and production of annual assessments and experimental branding and literature.
  • Researching, writing, and editing reports for the commanding general based on observations from field experimentation exercises.
  • Coordinating the publication of newsletters with the Center for Army Lessons Learned as directed by the Command Chief of Staff.
  • Crafting high-level information papers and talking points to support executive-level briefings.
  • Developing and managing products that enhance Command Group Messaging.
  • Attending section and organizational meetings for synchronization as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Public Affairs Officer, tracking internal and external communications and their effectiveness.
  • Preparing the organizational framework for strategic planning sessions as required.
  • Assisting in the planning and management of Distinguished Visitor engagements.
  • Creating and managing topical briefings for both internal and external audiences.
  • Maintaining a historical product repository through the organizational SharePoint site.
  • Providing inputs and outputs for post-exercise or assessment reporting tailored for senior leaders.
  • Coordinating with local community leaders and businesses to provide organizational information and facilitate resources for engagements.
  • Reviewing and editing draft and current versions of relevant briefings and associated materials.
  • Contributing to In-Progress Review sessions to support key organizational events.
  • Developing and managing content for organizational briefings.
  • Extending influence across the command to coordinate information, resources, and assistance for high-level communications product development.
  • Working independently and leading the implementation of logistics disciplines.
  • Travel Requirements: 25% to CONUS and OCONUS locations.


Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • At least two years of Brigade level and higher joint exercise planning experience, including integration of Live, Virtual, and Constructive Federations involving Coalition and Joint Forces.
  • ILE/CGSC graduate preferred.
  • Command and General Staff College graduate preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Secret Security Clearance required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting Joint and Multinational operations.
  • Familiarity with Future Concepts Center, Army Futures Command, and the Army's force modernization process.
  • Expertise in planning and executing brigade, division, corps, or Joint/Multinational operations/training exercises.
  • Experience in planning and executing training exercises using an integrated live-virtual-constructive simulation training environment.
  • Proven ability to create strategic messaging and translate vision into practical language.
  • Experience in preparing briefings and presenting to senior military officers.
  • Ability to collaborate within a matrix organization comprising uniformed personnel, DA civilians, and government contractors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software, including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
