Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Paraprofessionals (DFP)

Telecommuting: Not eligible for remote work.
Position Summary: The Montessori Classroom Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting educators and supporting students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. This position is essential for fostering an effective learning atmosphere through collaborative efforts with teachers and students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED certification required.
- Completion of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited institution, or passing scores on the Work keys test, or the ETS test prior to 2017.
- A Child Development Associate credential (CDA), an Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or at least one course in Child Development with a commitment to complete the CDA or Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development.
- Willingness to participate in and complete 45 hours of Montessori Assistant Training.
- Support teachers with instructional tasks for individual students or small groups.
- Assist in recordkeeping, checking student assignments, and preparing instructional materials.
- Act as a bridge between the school and families.
- Attend Parent-Staff Meetings during regular working hours.
- Engage in professional development workshops.
- Observe student progress and contribute to the planning and execution of suitable instructional activities.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Internal Applicants: Current employees of Detroit Public Schools Community District are not required to undergo a new security clearance unless the new position necessitates a different type of background check.
External Applicants: In accordance with Michigan law, successful candidates will need to undergo a criminal background check upon hiring. Details regarding the required checks will be provided at the time of hire.
