Job Description

As a Health Fitness Specialist Substitute at The National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS), you will have the opportunity to support our vibrant residents in fitness programming at a premier senior living community in Richmond, VA. This per diem position follows the direction of the Fitness Manager to assist in the management of day-to-day operations in our beautiful fitness amenities, including a pool, fitness center, and group fitness studio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach group exercise classes onsite, providing a range of activities to meet various fitness levels of class participants, while adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Supervise the fitness center and provide educational background and training to accurately and safely answer member questions related to health, fitness, and wellbeing.
  • Assess the health status of members to provide exercise and wellness-related counsel/recommendations unique to each individual.
  • Conduct orientations according to facility layout, membership policies/procedures, and Quality Assurance guidelines.
  • Establish a positive and professional rapport with members.
  • Support special events, such as races and charity walks.
  • Cross-train to learn some responsibilities of other full-time staff onsite.
  • Partner with other staff to help clean equipment and other areas of the facility as needed.
  • Demonstrate work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail.
  • Maintain familiarity with and abide by the policies stated in the NIFS Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a health-related field preferred or working toward degree.
  • Relevant work experience and training required; experience with older adult clientele preferred.
  • Ability to teach basic balance, chair exercise, and muscle conditioning group fitness classes; aquatic experience preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required.
  • ACSM and other Industry Certifications acknowledged.
