Job Summary

As a Certified Surgical Technician at Citizens Medical Center, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field throughout surgical procedures. You will apply age-specific needs in the planning and implementation of surgical procedures, possessing expertise in scrubbing for cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and thoracic procedures. You will also take call on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the safety management and infection control programs.
  • Assemble items needed for specific surgical procedures with knowledge of each surgeon's preferences.
  • Create and maintain sterile fields for surgical procedures.
  • Clean, assist with the sterilization of, and store instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Identify medications correctly.
  • Assist other surgical team members with the cleaning of the operating room in readiness for the following procedure.
  • Assist the circulating nurse and/or anesthesia personnel as requested.
  • Assist with the orientation of new personnel.
  • Take call as assigned.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the technical skills associated with cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and thoracic procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or accredited school of vocational nursing.
  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist or current license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Must use comprehensive judgment in making decisions related to channeling of communications.
  • Exhibits and exercises an awareness of own legal responsibilities in delivering patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
