As a Legal Clerk I, you will play a critical role in supporting the Municipal Court by processing legal instruments and documents, ensuring accurate and timely information is available to the public and court staff.
Key Responsibilities- Process and analyze legal documents, including civil filings and court records
- Extract and summarize pertinent information from applicant interviews and legal documents
- Utilize knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely information is available to the public and court staff
- Perform terminal or PC data entry on legal filing turn-around documents from hand-written or coded material
- Maintain a court record filing system with adequate controls, standards, and access restrictions
- Resolve and respond to inquiries concerning court documents or actions, especially scheduling
- High school diploma or equivalent and one to two years of progressively responsible clerical experience processing legal instruments and documents
- Ability to give, extract, and summarize information from interviewed applicants clearly and concisely
- Ability to reason, apply common sense, and understand and carry out instructions furnished in writing or orally
- Thorough knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and procedures as they apply to the assigned function
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, superiors, and coworkers
