Purchasing Specialist for Fresh Produce

Essential Qualifications: Experience in Produce Procurement Required

Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 plus performance bonuses and comprehensive benefits.

Position located at our corporate headquarters.

Carrie Rikon & Associates, LLC is dedicated to the efficient sourcing and timely distribution of high-quality products within the food and beverage sector. The role involves collaborating closely with the Senior Director of Purchasing and Senior Buyers to fulfill the company's objectives. The Purchasing Specialist will manage supply chain and inventory for key product categories while ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Procure products to align with projected demand.
  • Negotiate optimal pricing, quality, and service consistently.
  • Ensure adherence to established operational policies and procedures.
  • Aim to achieve inventory turnover goals while maintaining service levels and minimizing excess stock.
Collaborate with various departments and personnel to fulfill job responsibilities. Foster and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, store operations, distribution centers, and corporate teams.
  • Evaluate acquisition costs to guarantee purchases are made at the most competitive prices while considering quality and reliability.
  • Analyze current inventory, market trends, availability, and promotional impacts to recommend order quantities to the merchandising team.
  • Conduct post-promotion assessments to evaluate if promotional objectives were met and devise solutions for any identified issues.
  • Address and resolve inventory discrepancies at the store level resulting from allocation or ordering challenges.
  • Review and interpret daily and weekly reports to monitor costs, quality, service levels, inventory turnover, and excess stock, making necessary adjustments.
  • Visit stores as needed to oversee programs, gather feedback, and assess overall implementation effectiveness.
  • Manage Accounts Payable variance processes for items sourced through distribution to ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Resolve billing inquiries from stores by investigating discrepancies and providing appropriate resolutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive departmental records and files.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse Operations to ensure timely product flow through the facility.
  • Utilize remote access for procurement activities as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Purchasing or Vendor Management.
  • Preferred experience in Marketing/Logistics or a strong understanding of store operations and merchandising practices.
  • Knowledge of beverage procurement, logistics, inventory management, marketing, accounting, and financial management.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; proactive decision-making abilities.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with interpersonal abilities to cultivate effective business relationships.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Able to maintain focus and productivity amidst frequent interruptions.
