Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Raw Material Substitution Projects
    • Identify and acquire raw material samples, working with plant safety to obtain approval for use
    • Conduct pilot trials and production trials to ensure successful conversion
    • Facilitate cross-functional team meetings to review milestone events
  • Accurately Identify Customer Needs
    • Utilize knowledge to design product solutions that meet customer needs
    • Differentiate and elevate product performance at a competitive cost
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Product Management
    • Work with the Marketing and Product Management group to identify new product opportunities
    • Contribute to the development of the overall business case for new product opportunities
  • Apply QFD, VOC, and New Product Blueprinting
    • Determine performance factors, physical properties, physical appearances, and intangible qualities for new products
  • Deliver Solutions Exceeding Customer Requirements
    • Develop innovative product designs using lab and pilot facilities
    • Work with operations to translate designs into commercially viable processes
  • Ensure Product Quality and Customer Satisfaction
    • Ensure products meet end-use application needs of intended customers
    • Follow new products into the field and work with Technical Service and Sales to gain customer acceptance
  • Travel and Collaboration
    • Travel to customers' facilities to support new product development and product improvement efforts
    • Collaborate with team members to assign, oversee, and review experimental work
  • Reporting and Safety
    • Write clear, concise interpretive reports and memos with executive summaries
    • Actively support all Safety programs, initiatives, and 5S housekeeping programs
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Paper Science or Paper Engineering discipline
  • Skills and Experience
    • Innovative, organized self-starter with good problem-solving skills
    • Collaborative interpersonal style with experience in leading project teams
    • Proficient in MS Office suite of software, working knowledge of Smartsheet or other project planning software
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Demonstrated customer focus and commitment to Company values
    • Ability to travel ~ 25% to visit IPG plants, IPG HQ, and customer and supplier locations
