The Chief Operations Executive is responsible for leading, directing, and managing all manufacturing activities for Asphalt Materials, Inc. (AMI) in a safe manner, ensuring that products are handled efficiently and meet the required quality standards to achieve high service levels.
This role is a key member of the AMI Leadership Team and reports directly to the President of AMI.
The Chief Operations Executive will develop, integrate, and implement organizational and operational standards to support business and future growth strategies through effective leadership and organizational development.
The position focuses on ensuring that operational processes are efficient, effective, and aligned with the overall strategic objectives.Essential Job Functions
- Collaborate with other leaders to create and execute strategic plans for the organization.
- Play a crucial role on the senior leadership team for strategic development and execution, talent development, and succession planning.
- Lead the Operations and Engineering divisions of the organization, directly supervising a team of directors.
- Establish key performance indicators and objectives to assess success and efficiency in operations.
- Act as the Lean Champion for the organization, managing with a continuous improvement mindset utilizing lean principles.
- Identify opportunities for operational enhancements and implement changes to boost efficiency, profitability, and productivity.
- Set annual budgets and conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with plans and achievement of financial goals.
- Communicate clear expectations and hold directors accountable for performance, including overall plant operations, employee development, safety, environmental compliance, and quality standards.
- Foster a culture centered on teamwork, effective communication, and problem-solving.
- Provide daily leadership, support, solutions, and guidance for directors.
- Ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance across all operational locations.
- Facilitate communication and information sharing between operations and other functional business units.
- Collaborate with corporate research teams to drive product innovation and enhancement.
Focus on process-driven approaches and seek to understand the root causes of problems to implement permanent corrective actions and procedures that improve organizational effectiveness.
Mentor directors on innovative solutions and the application of appropriate problem-solving techniques to address operational challenges such as product formulation issues, employee conflicts, inventory management, and process disruptions.
- Responsible for making decisions regarding hiring, capital investments, employee relations and development, compensation, disciplinary actions, and terminations.- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to all safety protocols and practices.
- Represent the organization's core values and culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Fifteen years of relevant experience, including a minimum of ten years in a senior leadership position.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience leading an operations team.
- At least 5 years of P&L management experience.
- Experience in a lean operations environment with proven results and leadership focused on continuous improvement in cost, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrated success with Six Sigma or other problem-solving methodologies in an operational context.
- Ability to lead change and execute strategic decisions effectively.
- Strong project management and conflict resolution skills.
- Capacity to collaborate across all organizational levels and functional areas.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to empower, motivate, and inspire team members.
- Willingness to travel as required, approximately 25-50%, based on business needs.
