Job Overview

Hoyle, Tanner and Associates, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Resident Engineer to join our team in a dynamic role that combines project management, construction inspection, and technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Monitoring and Control: Monitor and review spent hours and dollars versus percent complete in relation to project timelines and budget, providing recommendations to the Project Manager to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop professional relationships with client peers, understanding their organization and needs.
  • Technical Expertise: Develop proficiency in software programs and other tools to support construction inspection and review processes.
  • Problem-Solving and Mentoring: Provide suggestions to resolve project timeline issues and budget issues, and offer peer mentoring for new construction technician staff.
  • Financial Management: Review and approve progress payments submitted by the Contractor and monitor and advise the Contractor and the Client on potential cost overruns/underruns.
  • Facilitation and Communication: Facilitate difficult project decisions and technical issues with clients and contractors, ensuring as-built field conditions are well documented and defended.
  • Meeting Coordination: Lead regular meetings with clients and contractors, preparing, reviewing, and approving change orders and value engineering proposals.
  • Schedule Review and Dispute Resolution: Thoroughly review construction schedule, offer comments and recommendations to the Contractor and Client to resolve discrepancies, areas of conflict, potential schedule overruns.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: BS or MS degree in civil engineering or a related field, and 5+ years of construction inspection experience.
  • Professional Certifications: PE Licensure, Certification in OSHA 10 Construction and Confined Space for Construction, OR HAZWOPER, and valid driver's license.
  • Technical Skills: Certification in one or more of the programs offered by NICET, ACI, NETTCP or approved alternate.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform tasks that involve moderate to strenuous physical activity.
