The Ophthalmic Support Specialist position is ideal for individuals eager to enter the healthcare sector. We welcome candidates with no prior experience, and bilingual Spanish speakers are particularly encouraged to apply.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary assessments of patients using ophthalmic techniques in a clinical environment.
  • Assist physicians by documenting patient interactions and providing direct support during examinations and treatments.
  • Prepare examination rooms and patients for various procedures as directed by the physician.
  • Gather comprehensive medical histories, including current medications, allergies, and family history of eye conditions.
  • Identify and communicate any patient concerns to the Practice Manager or physician as necessary.
  • Measure and record visual acuity and perform preliminary refraction with training provided.
  • Utilize tonometry to measure intraocular pressures and assess pupillary responses (training available).
  • Conduct basic visual field tests and provide patient education under physician guidance (training available).
  • Record vital signs as required and ensure accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Administer eye drops and assist with the application of dressings and eye patches as instructed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination and treatment areas, ensuring all supplies are stocked.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all patients.
  • Assist with patient transfers and perform additional duties as assigned, which may include clerical tasks such as scheduling and filing.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and proficient keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to accurately understand and spell medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and provide outstanding patient service.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to the Practice Manager and the Physician owner.


Work Environment:

  • Moderate physical activity is required, including standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Work is conducted in a clean office setting with potential exposure to body fluids.
  • Some exposure to hazardous materials may occur.
