Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist I/II to join our team at the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs. As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing client therapy programs and activities as part of a therapeutic psychiatric or medical treatment program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement therapeutic recreational programs and activities for an assigned caseload of patients.
  • Conduct interviews, tests, and other procedures to evaluate the patient's needs, attitudes, interests, and abilities.
  • Develop a therapeutic intervention plan based on observations, tests, and other information, and evaluate patient's participation in program activities and progress towards established goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team that consults with other health care professionals in determining a total treatment plan and recommends changes based on individual observations and evaluations.
  • Assist in developing protocols, treatment guidelines, education materials, and specialized programs for patients.
  • Serve as a community resource on recreational therapy and related health care issues.
  • Conduct various therapeutic recreation programs for clients' families and groups, including outdoor adventure/wilderness programs, physical activity programs, creative expressive programs, and special events and programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, physical education, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education, or a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education and one year of experience in recreational therapy.
  • Ability to supervise and plan various types of recreational activities, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, exercise initiative and independent judgment, and work with mentally ill or physically handicapped clients.
Working Conditions

The Office of Juvenile Affairs has determined that some positions in this job family are safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8. Must be able to pass background check and drug screening. A trial period of 12 months will be required.
