Recreation Therapist III

This is a specialist-level position in therapeutic recreation, responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting client therapy programs and activities as part of a therapeutic psychiatric or medical treatment program.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and implement therapeutic recreational programs and activities for an assigned caseload of patients.
- Conduct interviews, tests, and other procedures to evaluate patient needs, attitudes, interests, and abilities.
- Develop a therapeutic intervention plan based on observations, tests, and other information, and evaluate patient progress towards established goals and objectives.
- Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, consulting with other healthcare professionals to determine a total treatment plan and recommending changes based on individual observations and evaluations.
- Assist in developing protocols, treatment guidelines, education materials, and specialized programs for patients.
- Serve as a community resource on recreational therapy and related healthcare issues.
- Conduct various therapeutic recreation programs for clients' families and groups, including outdoor adventure/wilderness programs, physical activity programs, creative expressive programs, and special events and programs.
- A master's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education, and one year of experience in recreational therapy, or a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education, and two years of experience in recreational therapy, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) is required.
- Ability to supervise and plan various types of recreational activities, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, communicate effectively, exercise initiative and independent judgment, work with mentally ill or physically handicapped clients, motivate volunteer program aides, interview and counsel patients, and assess physical, social, and behavioral abilities.
- Must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position, possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of appointment, and be willing to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
- A trial period of 12 months will be required.
