About the Role:

The Commodity Buyer I will be responsible for gathering information and maintaining records to generate purchase orders for both inventory and non-inventory materials, as well as for commodity planning and services. This role serves as the primary contact for all materials and supplies entering the organization.

Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, this position offers a pathway for career advancement, with opportunities to grow within the organization over the next few years as you contribute significantly to our operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify requisition orders for accuracy, terminology, and specifications. Maintain and review purchasing documentation, reports, and pricing lists. Ensure supplier invoices align with bids and purchase orders.
  • Oversee in-house non-inventory supplies, manage Kanban releases, and perform purchasing duties as needed. Assess inventory levels to ensure adequacy for operational needs. Manage assigned commodities and seek opportunities to enhance purchase price variance by identifying superior suppliers in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including production, purchasing, engineering, quality assurance, and customer service, to achieve shared objectives.
  • Assist departments in coordinating purchasing and shipping activities, addressing complaints, and eliminating delays.
  • Negotiate minimum order quantities and lead times. Calculate targeted inventory levels and update relevant files accordingly.
  • Utilize MS Excel for data analysis to create effective reports, conduct pricing analysis for commodities, and identify trends impacting finished goods.
  • Plan purchased finished goods as assigned by the Procurement Manager.
  • Execute transactional and administrative tasks efficiently, ensuring information is processed accurately.
  • Respond promptly to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with organizational protocols and expectations, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Identify complex problems and develop effective solutions to enhance work processes.
  • Maintain performance levels under pressure and manage stress effectively.
  • Execute work processes to meet both volume and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with MAPICS/AS400 systems.
  • Basic accounting and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to navigate through office, plant, and warehouse environments.
