About the Role:

The Commodity Buyer I will be responsible for gathering data and maintaining records to create purchase orders for both inventory and non-inventory materials, as well as services related to commodity planning. This role serves as the primary contact for materials and supplies entering the organization.

Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, this position offers a pathway for career advancement, with opportunities to grow within the company over the next few years as you contribute to our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine requisition orders for accuracy, terminology, and specifications. Maintain and review purchasing documentation, reports, and pricing lists. Validate supplier invoices against bids and purchase orders for correctness.
  • Oversee non-inventory supplies and manage Kanban releases while performing purchasing duties as needed. Assess inventory levels to ensure they meet operational requirements. Manage assigned commodities under the guidance of the Purchasing Manager. Identify opportunities to enhance Purchase Price Variance (PPV) by sourcing better suppliers in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and reliability. Monitor commodity price trends and maintain accurate records. Resolve purchasing discrepancies between departments and vendors, ensuring timely product delivery to meet production needs.
  • Collaborate closely with various departments, including production, purchasing, engineering, quality assurance, and customer service, to achieve shared objectives.
  • Assist departments in coordinating purchasing and shipping activities, addressing complaints, and eliminating delays.
  • Negotiate minimum order quantities and lead times for Ekanban. Calculate targeted inventory levels and negotiate lead times accordingly. Update item balances and relevant files as necessary.
  • Utilize MS Excel for data analysis to generate effective reports. Conduct pricing analyses for commodities and identify trends. Prepare data on the impact of commodities on finished goods.
  • Plan for purchased finished goods as directed by the Purchasing Manager.
  • Efficiently handle transactional and administrative tasks, ensuring information is processed accurately.
  • Respond promptly to the needs of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with organizational protocols and expectations, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Identify complex problems and develop effective solutions to improve work processes.
  • Maintain performance levels under pressure and manage stress effectively.
  • Execute work processes to meet both volume and quality standards.
