About the Role:

The Commodity Buyer I will be responsible for gathering data and documentation to create purchase orders for the acquisition of both inventory and non-inventory materials, as well as services related to commodity management. This role serves as the primary contact for materials and supplies entering the organization.

Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, this position offers a pathway for career advancement, with the potential for growth within the company over the next few years as you contribute to our strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess requisition orders for accuracy, terminology, and specifications. Maintain and review purchasing documentation, reports, and pricing lists. Validate supplier invoices against bids and purchase orders for correctness.
  • Oversee internal non-inventory supplies, manage Kanban releases, and perform purchasing tasks as required. Evaluate inventory levels to ensure adequacy for operational needs. Manage assigned commodities and seek opportunities to enhance purchasing price variance by identifying superior suppliers in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and reliability. Monitor commodity price trends and maintain accurate records. Address purchasing issues between departments and vendors; expedite orders to meet production and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including production, purchasing, engineering, quality assurance, and customer service, to achieve shared objectives.
  • Coordinate purchasing and shipping activities with departments to resolve issues and prevent delays.
  • Negotiate minimum order quantities and lead times. Calculate targeted inventory levels and negotiate lead times. Update item balances and relevant files accordingly.
  • Utilize MS Excel for data analysis to generate effective reports. Conduct pricing analyses for commodities and identify trends. Prepare data on the impact of commodities on finished goods.
  • Plan purchased finished goods as directed by the Procurement Manager.
  • Execute transactional and administrative tasks efficiently, particularly in processing information.
  • Respond effectively to the needs of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Complete work in accordance with organizational protocols and expectations, adhering to standard operating procedures.
  • Identify complex problems and develop practical solutions to improve work processes.
  • Maintain performance levels under pressure and manage stress effectively.
  • Execute work processes to meet volume and quality standards consistently.
