Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Code Compliance Supervisor to join our team at the City of Punta Gorda, FL. As a key member of our Urban Design department, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our Code Compliance division, ensuring that all City codes and regulations are enforced in a fair and impartial manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train Code Compliance staff in the enforcement of City codes and regulations.
  • Conduct proactive on-site inspections to ensure compliance with Chapter 9A, Nuisance Code, and Chapter 26, Zoning Code.
  • Investigate complaints and enforce code violations in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Prepare and present cases before the Code Enforcement Board and court.
  • Collaborate with the City Attorney to prepare and prosecute code enforcement cases.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to improve code compliance and enforcement.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public, responding to inquiries and resolving complaints in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent required; Associate's degree in office sciences or related field highly desired.
  • Four years of clerical experience in a fast-paced office environment, with two to three years of experience in code enforcement work or inspection experience highly desirable.
  • Notary Public certification required; valid Florida driver's license also required.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws, rules, ordinances, and regulatory standards applicable to the work.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying, interpreting, and enforcing laws, regulations, codes, and department rules, policies, and procedures with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with the public, City officials, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
