Director of Engineering, Fulfillment Execution

We strive to deliver exceptional customer experiences at Coupang. Our mission is to build a seamless and efficient e-commerce platform that meets the evolving needs of our customers. As a Director of Engineering, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of our Fulfillment Execution team. You will lead a team of experienced engineers in designing and building large-scale, distributed software solutions that handle billions of promise data traffic. Your expertise in software architecture, leadership, and collaboration will be essential in driving the success of our Product Commerce business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a scalable serving platform for our Promise engine.
  • Lead technical reviews to ensure robust and scalable solutions align with our vision.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional teams, including Software Development Managers, Engineers, and Product Managers.
  • Participate in Agile project management methodologies to provide technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Develop and manage high-performing engineers, including hiring recommendations and mentorship.
  • Ensure high-quality design reviews that meet business and architectural goals.
  • Contribute to strategic planning to achieve technical and business goals with the team, leadership, and customers.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers.
  • 3+ years of experience in software architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • Extensive experience in managing mission-critical services with high throughput and low latency.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to define mission, vision, and roadmaps.
  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent people management skills to coach and lead high-performing software engineers.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills to shepherd communication with end users, technical, and business teams.
  • Knowledge of Agile software engineering practices and patterns for the full software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional, highly collaborative environments.
  • Track record of developing engineers through various career stages and building high-performance teams.
  • Experience building complex, high-performance, and highly available distributed software systems.
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement of systems, software, and processes through data analysis and metrics.

Compensation and Benefits

Coupang offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $184,000 to $376,000 per year, depending on location.
