Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for delivering personal care services to patients at Arkansas Hospice, ensuring a secure and organized environment in accordance with the interdisciplinary care plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required, along with successful completion of a nursing assistant training program that meets Arkansas Department of Health standards.
Experience: Prior experience in direct patient care within a hospital, long-term care facility, or hospice setting is preferred.
Licensure: Must hold a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
Additional Requirements: Eligibility for a Letter of Determination and successful completion of a skills evaluation test are mandatory. A valid Arkansas driver's license, car insurance, and access to a vehicle are also required for home care services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform personal care tasks under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, ensuring the dignity, comfort, and privacy of patients, including:
    • Assisting with bathing and grooming;
    • Providing skin, hair, and nail care;
    • Facilitating oral hygiene;
    • Assisting with toileting needs;
    • Supporting mobility and safe transfers;
    • Encouraging nutrition and hydration;
    • Assisting during medical treatments.
  2. Conduct routine housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and pleasant environment as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  3. Perform regular patient rounds to ensure care needs are met, notifying the healthcare team of any concerns.
  4. Document patient care activities accurately as instructed by the Registered Nurse.
  5. Build a respectful and trusting relationship with patients and their families while maintaining professional boundaries.
  6. Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families.
  7. Report any changes in patient condition or emergencies to the Registered Nurse promptly.
  8. Utilize safety equipment appropriately to ensure patient safety.
  9. Maintain a clean and safe environment while providing care.
  10. Observe and document patient status, including vital signs, and notify the Registered Nurse of any abnormalities.
  11. Adhere to infection control procedures and organizational policies.
  12. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  13. Exhibit excellent customer service skills, seeking opportunities to assist patients, families, and colleagues.
  14. Follow instructions from supervisors and work independently when necessary.
  15. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
  16. Meet attendance and punctuality standards consistently.
  17. Participate in required training and professional development activities, completing a minimum of twelve continuing education hours annually to maintain certification.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned.
