The Ambulatory Registered Nurse is a clinical nurse navigator providing navigation services to patients participating in various cancer screening programs. This role involves indirect patient contact, with hybrid remote flexibility, and requires proficiency in guiding individuals through screening and subsequent diagnostic evaluation in a clinically competent manner.
Key Responsibilities- Provide navigation services to patients participating in cancer screening programs
- Deliver nursing interventions to assigned patients, consistent with stated medical plans of care
- Schedule patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via online computer systems or telephone
- Reinforce physician instructions in person and through telephone contact
- Provide patient education and document patient responses in medical records
- Ensure appropriate patient consent and authorization for research and/or medical treatment
- Triage patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols
- Provide working supervision and delegate tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non-licensed medical staff, or office support personnel
- Participate in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise
- Associate degree (BSN preferred)
- Two (2) years of nursing experience, oncology experience preferred
- Licensure as Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Certification in one of the clinical areas offered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) required within 24 months of employment
