POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Pilot Plant Engineering Co-op is a comprehensive, full-time, 8-month opportunity designed to support the Pilot Plant team. This role involves engaging in various tasks, including process optimization, safety enhancement, documentation oversight, and troubleshooting processes.

This co-op position offers exposure to diverse engineering disciplines, aiding in the development of long-term career goals.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with Pilot Plant leadership, engineers, technicians, chemists, the R&D team, the Safety Manager, and other engineering professionals within the organization.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. **Engineering Assistance** - Provide engineering expertise for the facility, including general engineering tasks, mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), layouts, and general design work.

2. **Safety Support** - Aid in the documentation and procedures related to process safety management, complete necessary permits for confined spaces, lock-out/tag-out, and other safety protocols, and assist with environmental compliance.

3. **Operational Insight** - Shadow Plant Operations, Maintenance, and Chemists to gain an understanding of various aspects of the pilot plant and the oilseed processing workflow.

4. **Project Involvement** - Participate in a capital project, which includes defining the scope of work, managing a budget, specifying equipment, processing purchase requests, and coordinating with contractors.

Perform additional related duties as required and assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:


• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Progress towards a Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week during the co-op term.

• Willingness to engage in shift work (nights) for a minimum of 2 weeks for training/shadowing.
• Approximately 75% of the time spent in a plant environment; some exposure to chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise is expected.

• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
• Familiarity with safety processes such as confined space entry, lock-out/tag-out, fall protection, NFPA 36, and PSM is advantageous.
• Experience with 3D drawing capabilities in AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative and collaborate effectively across different functions in a matrixed environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
• High standards of integrity and ethics.
