Your role as a language acquisition specialist will involve applying your knowledge of bilingual and ESL program frameworks alongside evidence-based language strategies to foster academic success and language growth across various grade levels and subject areas.
Focusing on the successful implementation of KIPP Texas's multilingual initiatives and frameworks, including Get Ready, Summit K12, 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom, and dual-language simultaneous biliteracy instruction, you will provide direct coaching to educators, deans of multilingual education, and school administrators on effective methodologies to support multilingual KIPPsters.
Through robust coaching and continuous progress assessment, you will play a crucial role in enhancing academic and linguistic outcomes across our educational institutions.
You will know you are making an impact when your portfolio of schools meets their KIPP Texas performance targets each year, resulting in:
- Significant growth in language development and academic achievement for emergent bilingual students.
- All schools in your portfolio achieving an A or B rating.
- All schools in your portfolio meeting the Domain III TELPAS growth measure.
- All schools in your portfolio attaining 90/75/40 on the Reading STAAR, with minimal disparities between EBs and non-EBs.
- All schools in your portfolio achieving 90/75/40 on the Math STAAR, with minimal disparities between EBs and non-EBs.
Key Responsibilities
Focus on Achievement:
Exhibit a strong commitment and proven track record in assisting schools to close achievement gaps for all emergent bilingual learners. Understand the significance of comprehensible input strategies to engage all emergent bilingual learners.
Maintain high expectations for yourself as well as for the leaders and educators to eliminate barriers to academic success for multilingual learners.
Utilize research and various levels of data analysis to concentrate on student outcomes and the methods used to achieve them, supporting responsiveness to both strengths and areas for improvement for emergent bilingual learners.
Content Expert:
Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of multilingual frameworks, pedagogy, and instructional resources in a specific content area.
Possess experience in effectively implementing KIPP Texas's selected resources and frameworks such as Get Ready, Summit K12, 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom, and dual-language simultaneous biliteracy instruction.
Stay updated on current curricular and educational trends, practices, and legislation affecting multilingual programming.Effective Coach:
Drive instructional enhancement efforts across a portfolio of schools by planning and facilitating professional development, modeling effective content-based language instruction strategies, observing classroom practices, and providing constructive feedback to classroom teachers, deans of multilingual education, and school leaders.
Enhance teachers' instructional effectiveness through targeted coaching.Support for Schools:
Collaborate with the school-based leadership team, particularly by coaching deans of multilingual education, to impact the execution of content-based language instruction strategies that address the affective, linguistic, and cognitive needs of emergent bilingual students through content in their primary language and/or English.
Guide deans of multilingual education and teachers in establishing clear, measurable objectives and providing ongoing support to plan and implement effective content-based language instruction strategies through targeted observations and professional development.
Conduct individualized coaching sessions with deans of multilingual education to observe instructional practices, provide feedback, and collaboratively develop actionable strategies for enhancing comprehensible and engaging input for newcomers.
Ensure consistent application of the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and linguistic accommodations aligned with students' language proficiency levels.
Facilitate Professional Learning Communities:
Drive emergent bilingual achievement by planning and co-leading content teams focused on executing content-based language instruction strategies within the adopted KIPP Texas instructional materials.
Co-lead data team meetings centered on the academic and language achievement of emergent bilingual students by analyzing cohort comparison data and trends from Summit K12.
Lead school-based practice clinics and teach-backs focused on content-based language instruction strategies.
Conduct weekly professional learning communities for deans of multilingual education in their implementation of instructional strategies.
Engage in Continuous Data Analysis and Action Planning:
In collaboration with school leadership teams, develop and implement strategic response plans to meet KIPP Texas's emergent bilingual targets, including TELPAS growth and Domain III objectives.
Support school leadership teams in monitoring actions that drive academic success and language development for all current and monitored emergent bilingual students.
Coach deans of multilingual education on effective cohort data analysis practices.
Analyze school-specific and regional data to identify trends among emergent bilingual students and support the creation of response plans to achieve annual goals.
Monitor compliance with state and federal guidelines and policies.
Ensure Compliance:
Guarantee that all state and federal guidelines are adhered to across your portfolio of schools by collaborating with compliance managers and campus deans of multilingual education.
Assist with engagement activities to strengthen family, parent, and community connections and support for emergent bilingual learners.
Support KIPP educators in obtaining necessary Bilingual and ESL certifications with the assistance of HR and talent teams.
Help plan the Summer Language Program, including recruitment, hiring, training, and monitoring effectiveness aligned with student growth.
Collaborate with regional and school-level teams to facilitate and oversee campus testing plans for accurate data collection.
